課程概述

本課程將全程用德語進行。 Real conversations and discussions about a wide range of current topics. This course is a conversation class intended for students who expect to participate in social life at German universities. It focuses on making students more familiar with what people expect when having a conversation. Topics include:

  • When and how to change subjects
  • Ways to express your opinion and ideas, agree or disagree, and
  • clarify when you don't understand
  • How to close a conversation and sum up results

課程目標
What this course is about This course aims at the B2 (CEFR) level in spoken German. Students will learn to express viewpoints on a wide range of subjects, explain their viewpoint on a topical issue, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of various options, and find conclusions. Guided discussions and the use of a set of discussion-specific language will help to initiate discourse and take turns. By regular usage in guided discussions, students will be enabled to express their point of view, follow complex thought, exchange ideas, and generally maintain and hone their advanced conversational German skills. Each topic is announced in full (introduction, discussion points, recommended reading) the week before. Generally, topics are designed to reflect extracurricular discussions between university students on current controversial issues. Areas covered include studying, everyday living, psychology, philosophy, relationships, societal development, technical development, environmental issues, the job market, etc. How the course works Students are encouraged to contribute discussion topics. Each topic has a short introduction, questions for discussion and recommended reading. Preparing a discussion subject sharpens the most important parts of the skillset needed for academic writing and academic presentations:
  • You will write a concise introduction to the topic, as you would write an abstract for any academic thesis or a research proposal.
  • You will then formulate three or four questions for discussion.
  • These questions are essentially the same as you would use for academic articles, structuring the contents and logically leading to an outcome that complements the introduction.
  • During class sessions, you will lead your co-students in the discussion and generally act as the moderator, working along the questions you formulated earlier.
